Not a bad price for a fanless enclosure.

Thinking about getting one and a WD 1 TB Green Power SATA drive for music storage on an Intel iMac, but am trying to find out if this enclosure goes to sleep when iMac goes into sleep mode?

(otherwise, enclosure will keep waking iMac when it goes to sleep)

And how is performance (latency and streaming, both for music and video)?

yes it does in vista. and it doesn't wake up until you do a read write on the drive, even when the system has come back. when it is in sleep mode it draws 02 watts on my kill a watt. I like this but I am only going to turn it on once a week to do a backup.

How is noise and transmitted vibration?

And any idea if it goes to sleep properly with an Apple iMac?

I have a quiet drive in it (wd) and it's fine. but remember, I have it shut off except for when I am going to archive. Don't know about macs. sorry. most folks don't want to rely on these for everyday heavy use because there is no cooling. drives run hotter in these external boxes unless there is active cooling. I imagine this is an ideal enclosure for a WD GP, which runs cool.

Just to confirm:

When you put your computer to sleep, this external hard drive enclosure also goes to sleep?

I had a previous external hard drive that wouldn't not got to sleep and would keep waking the iMac up once it went to sleep. Only way to prevent this was to physically turn the external hard drive off.

I want to use it to store media files (I use the iMac as my music server), so it would not see heavy daily use.

the drive inside it goes from 9w to 2w. don't know what will happen in Mac OS.

Thanks.

Bought one and guess I will see what happens with my iMac.

Any news on the spindown behaviour of the MX-100?

I have my computers running (almost) 24/7, however, I do not need to access my external drives very often. But when I do (for example, when recording or watching a TV show using the external drive), I would like to have the drive available automatically.

What would be ideal to me is that the hard drive would spindown when there is no hard drive activity for some period - even in case the computer that the enclosure is connected to remains powered on.

Does anybody know if I can achieve this goal with MX-100 and the WD Green drives? Or any suggestions on a combination that would work?
