Ok this time no stipulations. Just which one is the quietest. I'm leaning pretty hard on the F1 right now.
Your opinions are appreciated.
- 500GB Samsung F1 HD502lJ
- 320GB WD3200AAKS (assuming I get the "quiet version")
- 500GB WD500AAKS

can't help you here, don't think many people can.
to answer properly you'd have to own all 3 drives AND have a way(or be bothered) to listen to all of them separately.
from spcr reviews though, i'd say all of them are too close to call- close enough that sample variance would render the difference moot.

I suspect StorageReview.com will also have some data on this subject. Mentioning the Samsung F1 got a reasonable endorsement at ArsTechnica.

I bought WD5000AAKB, a different model, but the difference is probably just interface (IDE). It's much louder than my old Barracuda IV. Can't recommend. For quietness I would look at 1 platter 3.5" or any 2.5" HDDs.
Update: with the help of HDD enclosures it's now quiet after all.
