Samsung F2 vs F1 hard drives... is there a difference

Post by ddrj » Sat Jun 06, 2009 9:26 am

Hey guys

I'm trying to decide between a Samsung F2 (5400 rpm) and a Samsung F1 (7200 rpm)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822152102

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822152173

Is there much difference in the two? Other than the rpms. When searching the forums, I read a few places where it's mentioned that there is no difference at all between a 5400 and 7200rpm drive.

Please tell me if this is true

Thanks in advance,

ddrj

Assuming the same areal density, there's usually a small speed advantage in throughput -- reading/writing, esp. larger files. The biggest difference is in random access speed, which seems most relevant to typical desktop "handling" or feel -- it's usually ~12ms for 7200rpm and >15ms for 5400rpm.

Thanks MikeC, I think in that case I'll get the F1 (gonna use it for the OS + storage i think )
