Help choosing hard drive upgrade, seagate 7200.4 500gb or we

Post by BlueLaser » Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:11 am

Trying to decide which would be the best for a laptop upgrade. The two that I am looking at are:

seagate 7200.4 500gb 7200rpm st9500420as
western digital scorpio blue 500gb 5400rpm wd5000bevt

I want to know about each ones:

speed
effect on my battery
how hot it gets
does it make noise
does it vibrate

I am interested in getting the best one overall.
Please give specs and numbers.

Thanks

The choice is yours. But Caviar Blue seems to be faster in real world usage. And better serve in multitasking environment.

Why not Caviar Black 320gb at 7200rpm? Faster than either of those drives you listed, or do you really really want 500gb?

The terminology is confusing me making me live up to my name.

I think you two mean Scorpio and not Caviar? OP asked for laptop drives.

Sorry. I meant Scorpio Blue. My fault.

I would go WD5000BEVT. It is much larger than 7500rpm WD3200BJKT, and i has almost same performance.

My bad, I meant this drive. http://www.westerndigital.com/en/produc ... riveid=477

Stupid naming schemes! As above, if you don't need 500gb then that hard drive is the quickest.
