However, I don't think smaller = slower is always the case. The 80 and 160 GB Intels are roughly identical in speed, whilst the small Sandforce drives appear the equal of their beefier brethren in the specs stakes.

I've got the X25-V 40GB in a Thinkpad, runs so fast now, and in a Quad PC I've got the X25-M 80GB. Runs sweet, both have Windows 7 x64 PRO installed. Properly configured Windows 7 only takes up 8GB of space.

It takes about 10 seconds, at most.

If you leave your computer on and unattended on a regular basis it can be scheduled to run at a set time of day. I set it to run every day at some time I think I won't be at the PC and if it's on it'll run.

The cake is a lie. Oh and the sandforce specs lie too.

There is a clear progression from larger is faster to smaller is slower. Word on the web is that the 120GB Intel drive performs the same as the 160GB drive but other than that there is a measurable drop in speed from each capacity drop. On top of that Sandforce drives don't live up to the promised spec.

Sandforce drives are clearly faster in some scenarios but on average they are slower than they advertise being. And that difference is more pronounced at lower capacities.

You might also note the Intel drives are the only one of the 3 that test better than their spec.

I can't comment on the Sandforce drives, but the 100 MB/s write speed was the 160 GB model with the later firmware. I think prior to this it was the same 70 MB/s as the 80 GB. I incorrectly thought both models gained the faster write speed but from that time, the firmware only brought the 160 a speed advantage.
