games on external drive, any problems?

Post by grandpatzer » Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:29 pm

ok, so my solution to avoiding the noise from mechanical drive during office work is to sipmle buy a eSata cage slap the internal sata drive in there.

When I'm doing low cpu power stuff the only disc on will be a Intel 40gb SSD, once I want to play games I will turn on the eSata harddrive and start playing.

As far as I can see this is the optimal solution.

Now to my question:
1: Does anyone see any trouble with this setup?

Hardware: Phenom II X4 965BE at 1.20v, 785G mobo, 4gb or 6gb DDR2 800, SSD 40gb, GPU 5850 +S1 R2, PSU 650TX Corsair, a passive eSata enclosure +WERY old spinpoint harddrive.

It shouldnt be a problem since the speed of eSata is the same as Sata. Although why not just buy an internal drive and use HOTSWAP to turn off the drive?

There should be more information in this thread
