Which of these 1TB HDs: Samsung F3, WD Green, or Barracuda?

Post by Nik7304 » Sun Jun 13, 2010 5:14 am

I'm trying to decide on a 1TB HD, and I'm choosing between these three at the moment:

Samsung F3 7200 rpm
Western Digital Caviar Green
Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm SATA-300

Is there a benefit to going to a 5400 rpm drive?

Alternatively, is there a better option 500GB drive?

WD is my preference, don't know the Samsung one.

Currently the Seagate ones have a very high % of faulty drives.

The WD is the quietest, lowest-power 3.5" drive I've seen.

The 500GB or 640GB 2.5" WD is better if it is fast enough and big enough for you.

5400RPM - quieter, may use less power (so may be cooler).

(e.g. Samsung F3EG HD105SI EcoGreen)

The 500GB EG uses only 1 platter, not sure if quieter/lower power/etc. than 1TB F3EG.

See, for instance, this thread:

Certainly not Seagate.
