Post by sono » Mon Oct 25, 2010 5:46 am

Hello, I have wd6400aaks hard drive and i was using it as usb drive since it got some bad sectors. So i connected it as internal sata drive and tried to low format it. While formating it died. Computer cant recognize it even in bios. I can hear its sppining but not working. Is it poosible to get it working again? Any ideas? Thank you

unless the data on it is irreplaceable, sounds like RMA time.

you could try freezing it to be able to use it for a few minutes to get the data off. Remember to put it in a freezer bag and the longer you freeze it the more time you will have to get data off. Haven't actually used this technique but heard it works.

hope this helps.

He was in the process of low-level formatting the drive when it failed, so I don't think he's too worried about losing any data on it. I think he just wants to know if it might be possible to get the drive usable again. : )

A drive that's failed critically once will do so again soon. Do not use. (RIP Maxtor, best described as "surprising")
