Efficient DVD storage?

Post by Mettyx » Mon Dec 17, 2012 10:55 am

I have over 600 DVDs and they are all in bought boxes like this-

of 50, 25 and 10 capacity. They already take away the room of 2 closets. :(

I'm having a real problem in finding out an elegant, efficient(each DVD is easily retrievable) solution for this.
I'm imagining a box of at least 200 capacity with some kind of row slider and tray pullout in which can be inserted paper with all of the titles and vertical numbering of columns which align with what you printed on the paper.

Does anything like that exist?

Back in the olden days of optical media ;) I used DVD/CD cases/wallets, the large ones hold hundreds of discs. Like this one:

I use a flight case (the one I have isn't available anymore, but there are similar ones around still. Maybe not the most space efficient, since it's not stackable, but it does make it easy to access all the discs individually.

That stores DVDs in DVD cases, not DVDs themselves, and the Logitech one looks very flimsy and unwieldy.

Why can't I find the most basic stuff ever, one would think with millions of accumulated DVDs and CDs a mainstream efficient product would evolve already.

It looks identical to the one I have, which has 800 little plastic sleeves in it, which hold the bare discs and hook onto metal rails, like a filing cabinet.

I've been putting my discs in Viva Elite Blu-ray cases (the ones the studios use, not the cheap knock-offs you find at Amazon et al). You can get these from Casetopia.

The best density is with the 6-disc 15mm case and the 2-disc 6mm slim case.

These are sturdy and high quality, but they aren't cheap, and you have to do your own artwork. Expect to pay almost $1 per case.

You didn't comprehend the topic, I need 1 or 2 big boxes, not hundreds of cases for each DVD.

Right.

Just get a bunch of those car visor CD holder crap gizmos, and a cardboard box.
