turning laptop HD into a portable drive

Post by andrewill » Mon Sep 23, 2019 2:47 am

Hello, everyone. I didn't find a better topic for my question, unfortunately. So. I have a hard drive from my laptop. And I want to convert it into a portable hard drive. Question: What do I need for it? Which case, cables...

Welcome to SPCR. I moved your post to it's own thread.

If it's a 2.5" SATA drive (HDD?), you can just buy a cheap enclosure that's powered via USB 3. There's a handful on Amazon that are highly rated and under $10.

I would recommend to avoid enclosures with mini USB3 connector, i have broken a lot of them, USB A or USB C are fine, here are a couple of recommendations,
USB A = Sabrent 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool-Free External Hard Drive Enclosure (EC-UASP)
USB C = UGREEN USB C Hard Drive Enclosure USB 3.1

Hi, yes. It's HDD from my laptop. But I want to put this HDD into case or something like that to make my HDD portable with cableand maybe something more.
