Seagate 7200.7 and vibration
Last night I deployed a new 80GB 7200.7 to a system that was using whining Maxtor DM+ 60. The whining is now gone, of course, but there isn't blessed silence yet.
The 7200.7 is a vibrating machine. When screwed in, you can feel it vibrating away. Even with ribber grommets in an Evercase, it transfers vibration to the case chassis and causes an irritating low frequency hum.
I have a Cuda V that doesn't vibrate nearly that badly. Is this typical of the 7200.7 models, or should I get it replaced?

My understanding is that suspended hard drives run hotter. A question to all you guys with suspended 7200.7:
is it hot?
Why I want to know this:
I'm building a new system. 7200.7 is already on its way from the store (sigh). I have yet to decide which case to buy. I'm leaning towards 3700BQE, but if you tell me that suspended 7200.7 is hot, I may opt for 3700AMB, due to its better airflow around the HD cage.
Thanks for your feedback.

Not AFAIK. Do a search for Dru's review here of a 7200.7: his impression was it was cooler then the IV he was comparing to - his measurments showed it was the same. In fact methinks the 'cudas in general tend to be cooler than others.Elliot wrote:is it hot?
Mine is real cool: it hangs just behind the front intake fan and reports a SMART temp of 22C, room temp is 18C.
I installed a 7200.7 160 SATA and after I decoupled the drive from the cage I can BARELY hear the seeks. Before decoupling it was V. LOUD.
BUT, drive does run warmer in the BQE case after decoupling (HDD 43C, CPU 32C, Case 25C). I had to increase the rear fan to 7V approx with fanmate, so now the system has gone from inaudible, to audible
