Hi folks, first post so go easy
I'm re-building my Intel LGA775 system and was planning on using a Thermalright XP-120 / Nexus 120mm fan combination until I saw this: http://www.nexustek.nl/pht7750.htm.
Currently the system has an Intel 560J cooled by an XP-90 / Acoustifan 92mm combination but I think for such a hot CPU I need something better to minimise noise. FWIW, I also have a passively cooled GigaByte 6600GT and Nexus NX-4090 psu installed.
Any input welcomed.

WELCOME TO SPCR !!!
That looks like a new Nexus cooler and the 800 rpm suggests a review by SPCR might be in order.
Previous nexus CPU coolers - unlike their fans - were a bit of a dissappointment. Those used 70mm fans. This one has a 80mm fan so "quiet" might actually be true this time.
However, under no circumstances will a slow-spinning 80mm fan outblow a 92mm fan similar rpms. I very seriously doubt it'll even match the performance of your XP90, let alone the XP120/Nexus. If the Acoustifan is a bit on the loud side for you, try a nexus 92mm fan instead rather than a full-blown heatsink change.

Agreed. This new Nexus looks like a conventional, relatively small area all-copper version of a standard 775 HS. Skivving has only marginal real benefits over soldering. I would bet $$ that the fan rarely stays at 800rpm on a >3GHz Prescott.burcakb wrote:I very seriously doubt it'll even match the performance of your XP90, let alone the XP120/Nexus. New LGA775 Cooler: Nexus PHT-7750... Better Than The XP-120?
I'm runnung a 3.2GHz 840D CPU in a Nexus Breeze case with a PHT-7750 cooler. The CPU temp idles at about 50c. When I render a video file for DVD creation the CPU temp shoots up past 65c and the system locks up. I'm looking at the Frezzer Pro 7, XP-120 or the Zalman CNPS9500 LED. I saw the Cooler Master Aquagate Mini for $60, but I would have to replace the case to use it.

That thing looks like a Zalman CNPS7000Cu except the fan is mounted on top of the heatsink rather than inset into it... The Zalman is heavier too by about 100 grams.
I'd expect a Zalman CNPS7000 to perform about the same as that Nexus, if not better. That means that thing will come nowhere near the effectiveness of a Thermalright XP120 or even an XP90.
