I'm assuming that the Thermalright (900 version) is paired up with a 92mm silent fan (panaflo/papst/acoustifan/whatever floats your boat) as opposed to a stock c7000. Or if you recommend switching out the c7000 fan, please say so.

If I understand what I think you're trying to say, the answer is "yes". The Zalman 7000 has a (basically) non-removable fan on it but the Thermalright comes w/o a fan so you have the ability to use whatever aftermarket 80mm or 92mm fan that float your boat.
Some people have switched out the stock Zalman fan but it's not too easy to do if you want to do it right.
