AX-7 good enough for barton 3000+?
I just got a barton 3000+ w/ 400 fsb. I was wondering if my AX-7 with a 32cfm fan would be enough to cool it. And if that is enough.. could i even put my vantec fan 28 cfms to cool it..
TIA

Geordie, how did you read temps from both the CPU diode and the socket? My motherboard's (Abit NF7-S) BIOS and MBM only show one temp for the CPU... do you know if it's the motherboard socket temp or the CPU diode temp?
I just replaced my TbredB XP1700+ with a Barton XP-M 2500+ and the temps are surprising. At 1.75v, the TbredB runs at the same temp as the Barton at 1.6v (52C under load). I'm wondering if the Bartons just run hotter, or if there's a CPU diode on the Barton that's not on the Tbred, or if I just put on too much thermal goop....

SK-7 and AX-7 are very different designs, although both are excellent. Given their different designs, I'm sure that there are mobos on which one would fit, but not the other.geordie wrote:Well I use an SK-7 (identical to the AX-7 I think) with a 80mm Panaflo L1A (around 26cfm IIRC) and it keeps my Barton cool enough. At 3200+ speed and 100% load, temps are around 64C diode, 50C socket, 25C case. Diode drops to around 40C when I'm just web browsing etc.

By default I just got the socket temp out of MBM5 and the bios on A7N8X Dlx rev2. The motherboard listing on the MBM 5 website shows that I needed to check the W83L785TS S Diode sensor to get the actual diode temp.aston wrote:Geordie, how did you read temps from both the CPU diode and the socket? Unfortunately for you, there is no alternative sensor listed for your mobo. In fact, not many seem to have this available.
Easy to test whether you have the socket or diode temperature sensor. From running at idle, run at 100% load for 5 mins say, then idle again. The diode temperature will go up rapidly at full load (for me it's something like 40C to 55C almost instantly) and will drop again almost as quickly when you idle again. The socket temperature changes much more slowly, only 3 or 4C a second for me.
ASUS probe is socket temp on my board. I can't comment specifically on any other ASUS board but I would assume that goes for the others too.root wrote:using asus probe (think its the socket temp?)
