Which Heatsink

Post by ONEshot » Sun May 02, 2004 12:42 am

I'm assuming that the Thermalright (900 version) is paired up with a 92mm silent fan (panaflo/papst/acoustifan/whatever floats your boat) as opposed to a stock c7000. Or if you recommend switching out the c7000 fan, please say so.

This is on a p4 2.6.

If I understand what I think you're trying to say, the answer is "yes". The Zalman 7000 has a (basically) non-removable fan on it but the Thermalright comes w/o a fan so you have the ability to use whatever aftermarket 80mm or 92mm fan that float your boat.

Some people have switched out the stock Zalman fan but it's not too easy to do if you want to do it right.

Im using an SLK 900A with a 92mm Silenx fan...the fan is unaudible, and with my 2600+, load temps never exceed 48deg C. Your temps would probably be higher.

Hrm... Then which 92mm fan? I know Ralf uses Panaflo L1A, but Goat uses SilenX...

Any other thoughts? Or even better, any DBA readings?

Just get whatever 92mm fan you like and use a Zalman fanmate (or equivalent) RPM adjuster. Then you can adjust the noise/cooling to taste.
