Replacing chipset active coolers with passive ones

Post by fanerman91 » Fri Dec 17, 2004 1:28 pm

How do I know what size to get? I want an Epox 9NDA3J but it has what I imagine will be a noisy fan on the motherboard. I want to replace it, probably with an Alpha 9.5 mm thick fan (I'll have a 6800 with NV Silencer on it, there should be room right?). I don't know what size to get though.

That's the Epox board...

Loose the fan.

Does the Epox board have some software that tells you the NB temperature through the OS.???

You might just be able to loose the fan, and keep the heatsink, or just change the heatsink for a low profile passive one.

I am quite certain that the twa*s in the motherboard marketing departments, sell 2 almost identical boards (same chipset) one with added features incuding a fan on the NB, its just NOT necessary at all.

An example, how many people have bought a graphics card, and either been surprised when it did/did'nt turn up with a fan, one company will sell the card with a fan that makes noise and can fail, and the other company does the decent thing.

Sorry about the minor rant, Andy.
