Which fan to replace CNPS7700?

Post by vapb400 » Mon Jan 17, 2005 6:51 pm

Well I am trying to quiet down my pc, I already had the BQE3700, the Samsung drive. Then I ordered 2 SilenX 120mm fans (should have researched more) and a CNPS7700. I was benchmarking w/ the side off and my 4 year old sister jammed an action figure in my CNPS7700, breaking 1 of the fins (i know, what are the chances).

Well anyways, I sent a repair request to Zalman, but if I have to pay more than $15 or so I'd rather just mod in a new fan cuz I wasn't that impressed with the accoustics anyways.

So what do you guys suggest I do? I could replace it with a nexus fan (would that work cuz they are sleeve bearings?) or a Globe or something along those lines. I would probably still run it through the FanMate so it needs to have the 3 pin fan connector.

I read the thread on the fan swap for the CNPS7000 so I'm assuming I'll just follow that.

I have a 3200+ Newcastle at 2.5GHz at stock voltages and would like to hit 2.6-2.7 (not urgent) when I buy better ram (my value select runs at 228HT, better than expected)

So my main question is what fan should I use? And what CFM did that Zalman put out at 12v and 5v?

Thanks!!!!

swap it with the nexus or a 92mm M1A or L1A

Wrong size, bro.

The Globe 120 spins faster than the Nexus 120 at the same voltage, and given the fact that you're trying to overclock past 2.5, I'd say the headroom the Globe gives you to play with is an advantage, not to mention the fact that it's a whole lot cheaper than the Nexus. You can always undervolt the Globe as low as ~6V and it will still spin up just fine.

Yep, same procedure as the swap on 7000; just on a larger scale. :)

Why not just get one of the orange Yate Loons that nexus use for their 120mm? Last I checked they were $4 a pop. Is supplies limited at this point?

Because preliminary tests so far have indicated that those are not of the same quality as the Nexus branded ones; likely an issue of QC or handpicking.

There are specs in the CNPS7700 review on the main site.

yea lol i saw that right after i made that post.

I narrowed it to the Globe, the Evercool (the uberness of the aluminum would be sweet), and some Sunon fan

According to SPCR
The Zalman pushes 32CFM @12v @38dBA and 12CFM @5v @22dBA

The Globe pushes 67CFM @12v @34dBA (anybody have 5v rating?)

The Sunon pushes 69CFM @12v @35.5dBA (anybody have 5v rating?)

The AOC/Evercool pushes 79.14CFM @12v @36dBA (anybody have 5v rating?)

what do you guys think?
