cutting corners
Everybody is a newbee the first time, but its real easy. You can try it without cutting out the corners but you dont want the fan to fall off. The xp-120 fan clips like to sit in the mounting holes so you have to cut the corners back that far. Look at this link:

Put masking tape over the motor casing where you can see into the motor so it doesn't get covered in plastic dust.

Yes, the design is for the point to fit in the screwhole. But the clip is very tight. So tight that if you mount it like Cams did, it won't come loose unless you do things with your case you shouldn't do anyway.
I have mine fitted in the holes (with the corners cut out.) But that is because i'm paranoid and the mod is fairly easy.

I'm in the process of building my new system - trust me, modding the nexus fans is really easy.
It took me 10 minutes with a hacksaw.
The way I did it was on each corner make 5 cuts:
2 directly across the "tube" that you want to remove, at the edges where it meets the fan casing.
2 diagonally from the middle of the tube to the edges again, which leaves you with two triangular tube sections that fall out and a triangular ridge left in the middle of the remaining tube.
1 parallel to where the tube was to remove that final ridge.
Nice and neat, no sharp edges, and very little effort.
I did a little tidying up with a file but there was no need other than me being picky
