Gonna be getting a new CPU, MB, HS

Post by Viperoni » Thu Apr 28, 2005 3:25 pm

CPU: AMD64 XP3000+, already decided.

HS: I'd really like to use a Thermalright XP120 heatsink.
I've got a SilenX 120mm which I like a lot, and the two should make a very good pair.

Now for a MB.
I dont want SLI, and I don't need a whole lot of features either. Just stability and overclockability ;)

So far, the Asus A8N-E looks like it has a lot of space around the NB: link
but from what it looks like, the heatpipes on the XP120 will hit the transistor cooling heatsink and probably the caps as well.

I'd prefer not to... but it looks like I might have to step down to the XP-90C...

I guess my main question is: has anybody paired up the two (A8N-E and XP120)?

Although it's a ThermalTake...

Has anybody used the cl-p0071? http://www.thermaltake.com/images/coole ... larged.jpg

Thanks :)

Yes I have. No real problem in the fit. The heatpipes get close (but do not block) the #1 DIMM slot, so I moved my two 512 MB DIMMS (1 GB) to slots 2 & 4 to keep them cooler. Dual channel works fine in this configuration.

The chipset can easily be replaced with most video cards. I have a 6600GT with Zalman VF700. I posted a pic in the NF4 Chipset Replacement thread.
