Abit AN7 and Athlon XP 2500+ - Suggestions for HS/F?

Post by krackato » Sat Jun 04, 2005 2:58 pm

I have an Abit AN7 paired with an Athlon XP 2500+. Currently I have a stock AMD hs/f on there, which is the loudest part of my computer. I've even replaced my northbridge fan with a heatsink (although the only reason I did that was that the fan died. Go Abit!).

Anyway, I have an old PAL8045 which I'm pretty sure won't fit onto the AN7 motherboard. I also have an 80mm Papst fan which I paid $20 for back in the day. They're both just sitting in a closet.

What are some good options for my system? I'm open from anything from Fanless to just good old 'pretty damn quiet'. Anything except watercooling.

Thanks guys.

The thermalright SI-97 is probably the best socket A heatsink. Get a good 92mm fan and you should be set. I don't think Speedfan supports your motherboard. So you probably need a Zalman Fanmate or other fan controller to slow down the fan.

I can't seem to find the thermalright SI-97 on newegg.com. Has it been replaced with a newer model?

Newegg is a great online store, but probably not the best when it comes to these kinds of computer parts. Jab-Tech or Xoxide are both good companies that have it in stock with decent prices.

Any other alternatives? Or is the SI-97 kind of a consensus around here? It just looks massive and I think I'd be worried that it would break my motherboard or something.

It's very light, much lighter than most of the heatsinks around. I can't wait for mine to arive :).
