here's a link to thermalright si-9xv preview.

http://www.thermalright.com/product_default.htm
click intel heatsinks.

anyone have any thoughts? mikec suggested "bending" the heatpipes for the si-97a, but these are already "bent" and in an L-shaped "tower" design. fins are closely spaced however. only works with p4

Feature:
* Multiple heatpipes for well spread heat around aluminum fins
* Soldered fins to copper base (nickel plated) to make effective contact
* Light weight and easy installation
* Optional passive cooling depending on system fan placement

Technical Spec.:

Dimension:

L89 x W85 x H148 (mm), without fan

Weight:

360g (heat sink only)

Recommended Fan

Maker: Panaflo (Panasonic)
Model: FBL09A12M
Size: 92 x 92 x 25 (mm)
Bearing: Hydro Wave
Voltage: 12V
Speed: 2450 rpm
Air Flow: 48 CFM
Noise Level: 30.0 dBA
Weight: 110g (3.88 oz)

Intel: xeon processor up to 3.60 GHz

I guess it really only helps you if you have an Intel CPU, although it doesn't say which socket.

Says it's for a Xeon, so that probably makes it a Socket 604.

that's true. however, if thermalright were to offer this for socket 754 or p4 socket, would it be a highly capable design?

It sure looks great. Plus, it's under the Intel weight limit. Let's hope they expand compatibility. I'd Love to experiment with a ducting scheme.

do you think it would outperform (or be less expensive while offering comparable performance) a xp-90, xp-120 and the new king, scythe ninja?

Why the hell don't they make some sort of universal clip for all platforms? I'm sure it's not rocket science...

Especially since Thermalright themselves packages some of their HSFs with multiple retention module kits.

yeah...."some"
Like SP97 and SP94... .and a recent example: SI-97 and the new SI-97A. Si-97A just adds compatibility with Athlon64. Why couldn't they make from the begining the A version if it was possible? I don't think they needed several months of research just to find the solution for the A64 compatibility of Si97...

So that people who got SI-97s would need to get an XP90 or XP120 if they upgraded to A64s?
