Help me order a Ninja!
Does anyone know where I can get a Ninja? Everyone says they're sold out. Two other places claimed that they had it in stock, and then sent me an email two days later about how they're sorry they said they had it. PLLLEEEEEASE help me look.
Thanks

Sorry, I couldn't resist since you didn't specify Scythe!
Let us know how your (Scythe) Ninja experience goes.

My guess is it's a combination of factors;
1. It's a new product. Vendors aren't going to order a ton of a product until they have an idea of how much the demand is. If it consistently sells out, they'll order in the future.
2. Name brand - Scythe isn't Thermalright. They aren't even ThermalTake. Compared to many other manufacturers, they aren't that well known. Thus, their new products won't get nearly as many orders as more established companies. New Thermalrights are pretty much guaranteed sell-outs. Smaller companies? Not so much.
3. The review - The Scythe Ninja article has gotten over 15,000 page reads... and it's two months old. The Arctic Freezer 64 is six months old and has gotten over 21,000 reads. That suggests that there seems to be an abnormal amount of interest in this heatsink from regular posters and lurkers alike. That's not including visitors of other websites and forums such as madshrimps and such. I've been pimping the product on ocforums, and after a month people are actually bandying the Scythe as a product worth buying or trying out. Before, there was some resistance (one guy almost accused me of being a Scythe "plant", since my very first post was praising the Ninja). It takes time for people to get over the idea that nothing beets X product, "it's the best heatsink EVAH." Once they get the idea that there maybe a better product than a six month old Thermalright product or the Sonic Tower, there will be more people willing to buy the product and experiment with it. The Ninja's been out for about two months; that's enough time for good reviews and good forum feedback for those seeking performance or a passive heatsink to take the plunge and order it. High interest = more sales = no stock.
4. Lazy retailers - Sometimes they'll post a product on their webpage weeks before they actually get it. Sometimes this is because the manufacturer doesn't have enough supply for the demand. Sometimes they'll just put off actually ordering the product. Given Newegg's domination on Internet sales, I really doubt it should have taken them as long as it did for them to stock up on new hot products like the P180 and the Ninja.
5. The universe hates you. It really really does. Seriously.

The way I got my P180 and my Ninja was to spend a lot of time checking Newegg. I got lucky and they finally got them both in stock a couple weeks ago. I ordered immediately and realized I was very lucky because on checking back the next morning I discovered both were already sold out.
Scythe does seem to be having supply problems with the Ninja. They probably aren't big enough (yet) to have a production line dedicated to a single product so they are only able to make batches of Ninjas.

So, now where?
EDIT: Just to update, I ended up ordering that new Vapochill Micro. It was either that or a freezer 64... I figured I'd be adventurous and try something new.
Coolerguys has a customer return for $40 listed under their garage sale section.

BTW, the one returned ninja at coolerguys is not in stock.
I bet a lurker or some other member snatched it up as soon as this tip was posted.... some forums get touchy with posting eBay links and hot deals like this for this exact reason.Vulcan wrote: Problem is my parts for my new system are all ariving this week.

Seeing as how popular this HS is, it's probably just selling out and Scythe isn't having some kind of problem producing them. It's not like they're a huge company and can run these things off by the thousands per month or something. There are probably tons of people quietly reading threads like this one and buying them without posting about it....

I have no reason to doubt that the Ninja, as well as the Freezer64, run out of stock so fast primarily because of the high review marks that each have received, as well as the positive comments found on this forum. SPCR has a big influence on parts recommendations, and as soon as something new gets praised here, sales jump.
There are still forums where folks are saying "What's a P180?", and the retailers can't keep them in stock very long at a shot. Once the early results for the San Diego core CPU's hit the street everybody wanted one. The same can be said for the DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra, the Samsung Spinpoint SATA drives and numerous other parts.
With larger non-standard cases like the TJ06, P180, Shark, Stacker, etc., the huge heatsinks have a home, and the Ninja seems to be the best of those for now. I'll bet there's over a hundred P180s out there running a passive Ninja parked between the two 120mm case fans, they seem made for each other.

I just bought one and received it yesterday from www.directron.com.

Looks like retailers are getting new stock. For those in CA (where newegg charges tax) who want to save some money, directron now has it in stock also.
