Best LAN cpu cooler for its weight?

Post by Thunder » Thu Sep 22, 2005 7:01 pm

I have been waiting for new cpu coolers to enter the market and now there are so many choices. As someone who frequents lans weight is a primary concern for me (something most dont think about with there 60lb p180's)
any ways I am wondering what people think the best cooler for its weight is?

btw I plan on mounting a Yate Loon fan

The ThermalRight XP-120 is an awesome cooler, and surprisingly light. The SI-120 takes away some of the weight, but retains almost all of the cooling (and reduces noise by letting the air flow through the fins more smoothly).

I love the SI-120's great ability to cool and be very light, but the SI-97A does the almost as good a job (except doesn't work on Intel socket sizes) at 120g less. Thats about the weight of a 92mm fan! Sorry, but for LAN I'd go with the SI-97A. I would use the SI-120 over the XP-120 for my more stationary applications because of simiar performance at 50g less.

actually the SI-120 is 30g heavier than the xp 120 despite its looks but the xp 120 doesn’t fit my mobo so I didn’t consider it. Overall they are both very light though. Right now im leaning towards the SI-97 because of its good performance light weight and lower cost. The only down side is I will have to cut the corners off of a yate loon.

Did a little more research here are all the weights

SI-97A=280 (W/O fan)
XP-90=360g (W/O fan)
SI-120=400g (W/O fan)
xp-120=370g (W/O fan)
Katana=300g (w/fan)
Vapochill=360g (w/fan)

Seems the katana is actually the lightest and has a better lapped HS base that the TR coolers
