Nexus 120mm onto Zalman 7700AlCu

Post by mo786 » Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:36 pm

How are you guys doing this?

I haven't have a closer look yet, but I can see after I take the Nexus off its square frame that there will be very little left.

The 4 spokes are very thin (should i do away with those as well) and the actual circle bith with the motor is what to small to drill into and screw into.

I am thinking perhaps I can saw the frame off - keep the spokes and then wedge them into the copper fins of the Zalman heatsink (assuming the spokes are long enough for this)
It should hold it - just worried the plastic mgiht start to go a big dodgy?

If not, how did others mount the Nexus (i already have the fan now so i have to use it)

cheers!

I used two part epoxy to permanetly mount the nexus to the zalman. It works ok, but if the fan ever failed, I might not be able to get it off.

when you say glue, what part of the zalman do you mean?

You glued the bottom plastic part of the Nexus to the metal holder of the Zalman?

Or did you use a part of the iriginal zalman fan which you then glued the nexus onto?

finally, did you need to 'raise' the nexus?

cheers

I have used Automotive Silastic (a silicin glue) to glue a fan on the metal piece that the original fan screws to and after about 8 months I have had no problems - but this was on a 7000 not a 7700 - although I believe the mounting to be the same . silicon adhesives are a bit softer than epoxy so they do not transfer the vibration as much. This was meant to be a stop gap repair till I got another cooler but I have as yet not gotten around to changing it (B.T.W. fan is a Panaflo "m" and although quiet at the lowest setting on the fan mate is pretty bad at full tilt although it does cool a LOT better at 12v than the Zalman fan - 6deg C.)
