reliability of AMD temp sensor

Post by knutinh » Mon Nov 14, 2005 2:56 am

Are AMD temp sensors now moved to the core, or are they still on the mobo close to the CPU?

The reason that I`m asking is that I put together my 3000+/nfoce4 ultra system this weekend with a zalman 7000Cu and speedfan. When I set the target temp to 50deg.C (CPU) and 40de.C (everything else), the CPU fan halts completely and the CPU is hovering around 40-50degsC passively cooled! And this is even before I get CnQ running. Is it really that cool??

A64 processors have the temp sensor in the processor.
For the full story read: Calibrate Your CPU Temp Reporting

B.T.W. You didn't tell us if you see that temp if your system is: idling, doing light work or loaded to the max. So nobody can tell you if it is normal.

The temps was semi-loaded, kind of typical temps observed when fiddling around in the PC :-) Not very helpful I guess :-)

I probably should do some winrar/PI/video processing to get a worst-case/full load report.
