Does it matter to have heatpipes running verticle?

My CPU socket is sideway, and my SI-97 ends up running verticle, either up or down. Does this adversely affect the performance of this?

It depends on what kind of heatpipe it is, some is effected but most doesn't.
Can't give you an answer about that cooler and what kind that isn't. Try to put your computer on the side or something and check the temperatures :-)

im planning on similarly mounting a 7900gtx vertically. the lower heatpipes may not work well but the top ones should run better than normal. my guess is it evens out but this is yet to be seen. heatpipes should have a wicking material inside them that transfers water by capillary action. i dont know if this can completely defy gravity.
