Conroe (Core 2 Duo) Cooling: Who wins ?

Hey all,

Just wondering what people think of the following three and if they were all using the same fan, who would win (be coolest).

Tuniq Tower 120

Scythe Ninja - compatabilty under investigation

Thermalright SI-128

Thermalright Ultra 120

What kind of fan? The Tuniq's fins are spaced more closed, which means it won't perform as well with a slow-running fan.

I'm hoping the Scythe Ninja can passively cool a non overclocked Conroe E6600.

Understand, there is no customer experience with production Conroes yet. But if what has been printed can be believed, the Ninja will have no problem passively cooling a non-overclocked Conroe.

For those who have a Ninja. do you see any clearence issues with this motherboard (Asus P5B Deluxe). I was a bit worried about the capacitor so close to the socket and maybe spacing between the fan and the yellow memory slot.

There's a very big problem. The 775 adaptors that come with the Ninja cannot be mounted on this board. There are two of them and they stretch from hole to hole, on opposite sides. Since capacitors cover the area from hole to hole on adjacent sides, the adaptors cannot be mounted.

Don't be hasty. The Ninja rails sit quite a bit above the board, and on my P5LD2 happily reside above capacitors clustered around the CPU socket.

Can you take a picture of the mounting rails. Or meansurement, I get someone to take measurements of the caps on the P5B. Thanks

I can't get a measurement without taking my whole system apart. The capacitors near the CPU on my motherboard are about 0.4" tall (estimate, not measured, again a complete disassembly would be required).

Here's a photo of the rails (and other stuff) from the SPCR review of the Ninja. The rails are at the top, and they mount to the motherboard with the part at the top of this photo; the square holes at the bottom are where the heat sink clips attach.

Core 2 Duo(Conroe) is using the LGA775 socket and the IHS is attached
too. There should be no problem with using a Ninja PLUS CPU Cooler
with Core 2 Duo CPUs as their TDP-Wattage went down and you could
now use even a slower fan.
The ASUS P5W DH Deluxe is not available yet and this is why I can
only refer to the picture in online shops/google.
It seems that Ninja CPU Cooler should fit onto the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
Mainboard. You could measure the distances to be sure that there is
enough space for the Ninja CPU Cooler.

I try to get either Tuniq Tower 120 or Ninja or maybe last TR Ultra 120. Hard to really decide, TT120 does great with its default fan, but not so great once the fan slows down. Ninja is pretty cheap and could work great, just worried about ram clearance, with the fan sticking out pretty far, could be an issue. TR Ultra 120, is pretty expensive, but doesn't have any mounting or space issues. Hard to say

Well I had my system apart again, so here's the requested photo. Note the substantial clearance between the capacitors and the Ninja mounting rail...

Yep, that's why I'm hoping.

I'll probably be one of the first guinea pigs to try.

I'll start off by underclocking an E6600, then check temps, and slowly increase to stock speed.

Great list! I was also wondering how these 2 new Thermalrights compare with the Ninja, and TT120, and SI-120.
