Need advice: P4 2.0 ghz has noisy CPU fan

Post by lean » Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:40 pm

Hi,

I've got a pc here w/ an Intel D850MV motherboard, socket 478 w/ a P4 2.0 ghz chip. The Intel CPU fan creates a pretty annoying noise that I'd like to reduce or eliminate. I've already replaced the system fans and power supply with quieter models and this is pretty much the last noisemaker in my system. Anyone have any ideas for stuff I can buy from newegg that would work well in this situation?

Thanks!

One of the best HSF out there, and you don't even need to do the mounting kit for S478. Able to run it passive if you have enough airflow, otherwise its 120mm fan @ 5v should be good enough for P4 2.0GHz.

jfyi jab-tech has it much cheaper. No reason to overpay newegg $15.

but are also out of stock :(

Looks like Sharka, Directron, and SVC do have it in stock and under $40 as well.

The thermal compound that comes with the HSF will do, but you could always dump $2-$5 more for Arctic Silver 5 or Ceramique.
