Zalman TNN300 with AM2-Mainboard

Post by udo12 » Sat Oct 21, 2006 9:18 am

I’ve have the Zalman TNN-300 and now I'm trying so install a mainboard. The ASUS M2NPV-VM for an AMD AM2-Socket CPU, but unfortunately the CPU-Cooler Block cannot be installed with the AM2-Socket, because there is no bold in the middle of the Socket.
Did anyone have similar problems or better an answer?

Hmm I have a TNN300 and everything is fine (but that doesnt help you)

From the layout of your motherboard everything is fine the CPU block should fit because the capacitors are not in the way.

What do you mean by

Place the lower CPU block on the cpu, put the 6 heatpipes on, place the upper cpu block on and tighten screws, then put the metal clamp ontop of the entire block and use the two long screws to screw it down tight.

If your still having problems give us more info or take a picture if possible of your problem.

I think he was screwed up by AM2 extra terrestrial retention mechanism that is incompatible with previous K8 center bolts Zalman provided.

However, you should be able to use Thermaright's solution

and just make a use of included s478 clips to install the CPU cooling block.

Thank you for your answer Weldingheart.
But I don't think this solution would fit. I think the Thermalright AM2 Retention Modul is too low to press the CPU cooling block down. Looking at the picture the cooling block seems to be too small for this solution:

udo12, have you found a solution in the end?? I was considering exactly the same setup, but now I'm a bit worried after reading this thread...

Had you seen this:

Especially the photo here:

It seems they managed somehow...

Hello bcas,
I found a solution. The Thermalright AM2 RM Adapter ( Rev. B ) fits! You just have to cut out the parts for the old sockets with a saw.

I used tiewraps. :P

It works fine, I tested these tiewraps on my stove and I see that the temperature where they start to change shape is well over 100ºC.
