Your cpu temps with Ninja

Post by pandb » Thu Oct 26, 2006 2:16 am

What kind of temps are people getting with the ninja?

My current system is a P5B Deluxe with E6300 OC to 2.33 GHz with no voltage increase. I have a Ninja with the supplied stock 120mm fan attached.
However, my current idle temp is 43 degrees and load temp is 58 degrees. Is that normal? It is still a massive difference from the Ninja review on SPCR.
I simply cannot get near the low cpu temps that they have on their review.
Review results:
Scythe Ninja w/ Nexus 120 fan
Fan V / CFM - Load Temp
12V / 42 - 35°C
9V / 36 - 37°C
7V / 28 - 40°C

Can the difference be explained by hot NB or VRM? Or is it simply bad contact between HS and the CPU? Everybody says Ninja is the best and most efficient I am quite tempted to switch camp to Zalman but have reservation about the noise it creates.

First...are you 100% certain you are seeing the right temperature. Have you tried measuring the CPU temp with an external probe? Could be your sensor is off base....

Check the base of the Ninja.....I've heard claims that some Ninjas are not flat. Some light lapping could fix or confirm this problem.

My P4-3.4 [95w]has a Ninja on it. I'm using a Globe 120mm case fan to cool it.....no fan on the Ninja. This morning the ambient temp is 23.5C. The CPU is idling at 34C, with the fan @800rpms......running CPUBurn raises the temp to 45C, with the fan @1225rpms. That's it. There are only two fans in this setup, so it's a very low airflow case.

The SPCR experience with the Ninja is no accident....this is an exceptional heatsink. You might be having some problem.

E6600 at stock speed and voltage on a P5W - 36C idle and 56C 100% TAT (fresh AS5 so likely lower now that it has cured).

same chip running @ 3.3GHz w/ 1.4V - 43C idle and 66C 100% TAT

Ambient around 24C in all cases.

I initially had tons of airflow, but found that limiting myself to passive intake and Yate Loon exhaust and CPU fans both running at a bit over 1000rpm didn't increase my temps at all (junction between Ninja and CPU is likely limiting my cooling more than airflow).

Makes me wonder if I'm having problems with mine also. I have a C2D E6600 at stock, Ninja Scythe v1.0, and an Antec Tri-Cool 120mm fan running at low.

According to Intel Desktop Tool:
Idle: 37C
Load: 61C (using Intel TAT running 100% on both cores)

On average, when I'm gaming like in Counter-Strike Source, Quake 4, and Everquest, I am low 40's Celsius.

For fun's sake, here're my temps:

Venice 1.9ghz on Ninja fanless with Seasonic S12 as exhaust

Idle: 39 cold boot - 44 - 47 depending on how long I've run my com (measured in days)
Undervolted prime95: 49 - 55+
1.45V prime95: steadily rises to 75 degrees at which I terminate test

The heatpipes are probably defective. Near the bottom where I can reach with my finger it isn't even 50.

I would not expect 1,45V and Seasonic output as being passive compatible.

E6400 @ 2.8Ghz 1.3125V

Nexus 120 @ 700RPM
Idle: 45ºC
Load: 63ºC

Nexus 120 @ 1000RPM
Idle: 42ºC
Load: 56ºC

My Ninja seems to be working perfectly fine for me but my ambient is around 22-24C coldest at night since it's around winter time. Although I'm leaving as is no more volting up. Don't want it to go nuts during the winter.

I used TAT to moniter and burn the CPU. Using Prime95 you can take off 5ºC from load. I still don't like my idle temps though. I wish they'd be lower. But it could be due to the low airflow in my system. Only 2 Nexus 120s running at 700RPM.

Running on an X2 3800+ clocked at 2.3 GHz, and ducted to an Antec case fan I am seeing:

FAH load: 46 (motherboard measurement)
idle: 36

Interestingly enough, using the latest version of speedfan, it is telling me that my core temps during load are acutally a toasty 57 degrees!

I don't see this measurement discrepancy on my other comp with an Athlon 3500+ (also with a Ninja). It is ducted to a Yate Loon at ~800rpm and is:

FAH load: 41
idle: 30

The discrepency is due to the fact that the MB sensor isn't on the core. The value speedfan is giving you for a core temp is accurate.

Your Athlon 3500+ must have the sensor closer to the actual chip.

My CPU is cooled by the Scythe Ninja without the fan. It is mounted on an Asus P4C800 Deluxe motherboard inside an Antec P180B case with all fans set on low.

The CPU is an Intel Prescott at 3.0 ghz with no overclocking of any kind.

Here are my temperatures based on the ASUS Probe:

Idle 36 C
Load 53 C
Motherboard 30 C
Ambient 28 C

Before with the stock heatsink:

Idle 46 C
Load 55 C
