heatsink compatible with an abit nview, in an antec nsk2400?

Post by dejsti » Sun Jan 14, 2007 11:04 am

yup, so i'm currently running an amd x2 3800+ on an abit nf-m2 nview, in an antec nsk2400 case, and so far finding a heatsink compatible with both has proven problematic.

i've tried the scythe andy samurai, which proved too big for the antec case.

i've heard about the thermalright si-128/120 fit, but i was looking for more options.

thanks.

In a thread a few months ago, Bishoptf recommended the Aerocool X-fire. I installed it in the NSK2400/abit NF-M2 and it works great--nice and quiet with system temps typically in the low 30 to mid 30 deg C.. I followed bishoptf's setup in which the stock fan was substituted for a Yate Loon but the stock Aerocool fan might have been fine.

Also, I'm using an 64X2 4200+.

are those temps with the system with load, or idle?

The temps are under maybe moderate load (i.e., recording in MCE2005 while surfing around in IE and playing music). For what it's worth, I ran CPU Burn-In for a couple hours and the system temp reached 39 deg C. NSK2400 fans (all stock) set to low, and the Nexus on the Xfire at 7V via BIOS. CPU running with CandQ enabled. Idle temps have been 28 and 29 deg C. I imagine that all the temps are a little lower than if I were to check during the summer months, as my home is at 68 deg F. I don't do any gaming, so I'm using the integrated video of the NF-M2.

I think bishoptf made a great find, as the xfire installed pretty easily on to the AM2 bracket--this was my first ever build and I didn't have any trouble. The only caveat is that my two 1GB Corsair XM2 Dominator 6400 sticks were a few millimeters too tall to fit in the DIMM1/2 slots and had to be installed into the DIMM3/4 slots. I don't know if other vendors have the same extended heat fins as the Corsair, but keep that in mind if you intend to use all four DIMM slots of the motherboard.

thanks. i found a number of good reviews for this heatsink as well. the only problem i have is finding one online that ships to canada.

a bunch of local/online retailers carry a bunch of aerocool heatsinks, just not the xfire.

DId you try frozencpu.com? It seems like they ship to Canada:

I don't have any experience with them, but they have it for the same price as newegg, which is where I purchased mine.

Good luck!

I just use the stock AMD cooler and swapped out the noisy fan with a scythe 80mm fan. I am running a 4200+ 65w and idle temps are in the 31 range. (my ambient temp is 22 or so.) Since the scythe 80mm fan is larger than the stock coolers 70mm fan, there will be a bit of an overhang. You can also get a 70mm-80mm plastic adapter (sort of like a funnel). i'm using that now but i'm not convinced that it is a good idea. but the system stays cool enough and it's quiet, so i'm happy. (oh, i use 2 scythe 800rpm fans instead of the stock antec fans, they are oh so quiet.)

Hi, the xfire looks like a nice heatsink and I'm sure ample for cooling AMD X2s. I found an X2 4200 could be cooled, just enough (55-60°C load) by the stock cooler on 5V (pretty quiet). How tall is the NSK2400, the Si-120/128 are (IIRC) 90mm tall then 25mm of fan plus need some gap above the fan so ideally need 130-140mm case height. The XP-120 if can find it is much lower, dunno if it fits. I planning to get a NF-M2 soon with X2 3800 and put an Arctic Cooling Alpine on it.

SI-120 w/ fan is definitely no good...fits but doesn't leave any space for airflow. I ended up using an XP-90C in mine and it works fine so XP-120 may work as well.

zalman 7700?

Post by ccorayer » Sat Jan 20, 2007 3:05 pm

I'm using one of the zalman 7700's now with a yate loon replacement fan at 5 volts in that case. I don't have the abit board but I'm considering essentially duplicating your current setup. Thermaltake has a rev B adapter that can be modified to work with the zalman unit. Considering the whole HS and fan swap cost me ~40$ I'll try working with it when it comes time to replace the board...
