Controlling S-Flex E as CPU fan on P5B Deluxe
Hi all
I got my new system put together last night (pictures will posted later), but the 2 S-Flex E (1200rpm) fans (case and CPU) are making a little more noise than I would like. When I enable the ASUS Q-Fan (silent mode) in the bios, the case fan drops to a nice approx. 800rpm, but the CPU fan (mounted on a Thermalright Ultra-120) remains at 1200rpm. The CPU temp (according to the bios is around 40 degrees C). I suspect that the problem is that the S-Flexs only have a 3-pin connector, and the CPU fan connector on the mobo is a 4-pin; the 4th pin not connected to the fan is labelled "CPU fan PWM".
Does this mean that the S-Flex cannot be controlled by the P5B Deluxe if used as CPU fan??? -Or is there some clever work-around, maybe using Speedfan ? -Or do I need something like a Fanmate2 to manually controll the CPU fan?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Morten

Hi, I have a P5B series board and as far as I can tell the CPU fan has to be 4 pin for it to be controlled (either by bios or Speedfan). As sugested I would disable the CPU fan warning and connect the CPU fan to a case fan header with can be controlled by the BIOS or Speedfan. (Speedfan 4.32 and later needed and turn Q-Fan in BIOS off). Downside is that all the case fans are on a single control so the case fans get same % speed as CPU fan, this may not be too much of a problem though.
Alternatively fix the case fans and leave the CPU fan under control of Speedfan.
Arctic Cooling make a range of PWM fans that are reasonably priced, if you find for sale anywhere...
Good luck, Seb

Skythe have a new range of PWM 4 pin fans coming. Although they are normal sleeve bearing, so i may not want to mount horizontally on my XP120 in HTPC case.

Hi,
I can't control my Scythe fan with speedfan for some reason.
is there another program that can do the job?
or maybe i need to configure speedfan somehow?
my mobo' is a Gigabyte 965p-ds3p.
although it has good airflow, the noise is more then my previous Zalman 7700 when undervolted.
Thanks!
Edit - can i connect my FanMate 2 to the scythe?
thaks again.
