Right I am soon building a new system, since motherboard I was thinking to fit Ninja is out stock, I may have to change into Thermalright cooler since I am not sure if I get motherboard that can fit Ninja.
Question is, I've read that Ultra-120 eXtreme has had some quality problem because of popularity, Thermalright has speed up eXtreme production, resulting poorer quality in some eXtreme model's which is not reported in Regular Ultra-120
Now price difference is is about 18€ Is eXtreme so much more effective compared to regular Ultra that I should pay 18+€'s more?? I mean is it drastically more effective? Like 7+ Degrees celsius and not just 1-2 degree's C?
Or is it just rumor that eXtreme's quality has suffered due demand? And that has no basis?
I plan to use Socket AM2 Amd X2 3800+ / 4200+ (65W) EE-version.
Ultra-120 vs. Ultra-120 eXtreme

Anandtech has tests that show basically identical performance between the regular and extreme ultra-120's at low and moderate CPU dissipations. The extreme version is a few degrees better only under conditions of extreme overclocking (for example, C2D X6800 pushed to 3.73GHz), where the extra thermal conductance provided by the extra two heatpipes in the extreme version does provide a benefit of 3c.

My Ultra-120 Extreme should be here tomorrow, I'll let you know. My Ninja rev A is happy cooling my [email protected]/1.325v... but it's not so happy with my new [email protected]/1.325v, particularly with summer here.
what temps is the Q66600 pumping out at that speed idle/load? Ambient temp?continuum wrote:My Ultra-120 Extreme should be here tomorrow, I'll let you know. Re: Ultra-120 vs. Ultra-120 eXtreme
After running both on same motherboard (P5N-E SLI and E4300 at 3.2Ghz) the difference is 2-3c. Not worht 18€ IMOthejamppa wrote:Right I am soon building a new system, since motherboard I was thinking to fit Ninja is out stock, I may have to change into Thermalright cooler since I am not sure if I get motherboard that can fit Ninja.

Do you want to overvolt and overclock your X2 3800+? If you don't, I do highly suspect you would notice the difference of temp from a cool running X2 3800+.
Undervolt to 1.1V@2G stock, you can save the money happily. From experience of my 35W 90nm X2 3800+(sorry, not 65W), it runs pretty cool at default 1.075V@2G. I tend to run it at [email protected]. AC AF8025 PWM, attach to a Scythe Katana2 , never spin above 900rpm at full running. At idle state of [email protected], the fan spins at 700~770 rpm. I believe Ultra-120 will cope you needs very good, even better than your imagination.
At least, my younger brother's 65W 90nm X2 3600+ runs pretty cool under the same Scythe cooler. X2 3600+ also runs at 1.1V@2G. Ambient temp is around 28~32'c.
