Ultra-120 compatibility with 945-based mb's ?

Post by wlof » Thu Jun 19, 2008 7:48 am

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to build a cheap yet quiet file server, and I need some advice. I'd like to passively cool an E2160 (by passively, I mean there should be no CPU fan, but there will still be two case fans). On another forum, I was advised to take a look at the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme. It seems like a good product for what I want to do, but in the compatibility list, no 945-based motherboards are listed. Which is bad, because since this is going to be a server, integrated graphics are good.

What do you think? Is the Ultra-120 compatible with 945 mb's (I'm thinking of buying an Asus P5GC-MX)? Should I simply buy another mb and use any handy graphics card for the installation? (My only requirements for the mb is that it should have socket 775, 1 IDE port, 4 SATA ports, and of course ethernet.)

Thanks in advance to all :)

(Also, English is not my first language, so I'm sorry if I made any mistakes.)

If it will fit you would most likely be better off with Thermalright's HR-01 Plus - it has wider fin spacing and cools better with a low speed fan - See the SPCR review it explains it fairly well .
