Cooling solution for Q9550

Post by mikim333 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 2:15 pm

hi,
I am about to build a new system using the Core2Quad Q9550 CPU.
One thing which, isn't that clear to me is, whether I should replace
the original CPU cooler and with what?
First I was thinking about "Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME", but then I
got the following responses:
1. If you are not going to overclock than keep the original CPU cooling.
2. Since it is Q9550 you must use "Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme" plus
120mm fan on top.

What is your opinion? Should I stay with the original cooling? Is it good ?
Is it quiet?
I really don't want to waste my money on needless stuff, on the other
hand I really don't want to get stuck with a noisy fan.

Thanks.
PS.
I am about to use ASUS P5Q PRO mobo, and Antec Solo case.

Stock cooling is fine.

hi,
thanks, for the input :). Is the stock cooling noisy or quiet?

By the way, I am not going to use so many fans in my case, how would that affect the temp of the CPU ant its cooling (I am going to use Antec Solo)

thanks.

Running at 50/50/47/50 - with PWM, the fan is only 750rpm and is quieter than any of the case fans. There is an air inlet on the side of the case that is still drawing a vacuum, so the two front fans aren't really necessary, but I added them anyway as I have three HDDs including a VelociRaptor, and it promotes more front to back airflow.
