This a really good Heatsink to get? I am looking for a new one for my AM2. Anyone have one fitted in an Antec 300?
What fan is best fitted to it? One that gives good cooling but also a quiet operation? Thanks

Very good temps - at ambient of 21C, my Q9550 idles at 32/32/30/30, usually hits 41 or 42 per core at 100%.
Stock fan running non-PWM - it's a quiet fan by my standards (can't hear it over the Antec 300 tricools running on low). Even on PWM it cools fine, but I moved it to a non-PWM header to get some extra airflow across the mosfets on my board.

Xigmatek is good in my 300 aswell. I am using S-flex E ( 1200 rpm ) since P35-DS3L is very good internal fan controller. My S-flex is spinning around 420 rpm's minute in idle.
I have around 0,5cm space between my Xigmatek + padded side panel so there's clearance even after putting noise absorption material. However I think AM2/3 stands bit higher ( the socket and CPU ) than intel LGA 775. Just couple mm's but still. But there should be more than enough clearance.

My E8400 Idles at 32-34 degree's C, ( cores 38 degree's C with Real temp ), and do not change wether fan speed is increased. Fan is @ 420 rpms.
In stress, I haven't seen over 60 degree core temps with real temp ( 54 - 56 degree's C core temperatures ) when running prime 95 but I haven't OC'ed my E8400
Case fans ( just in case as they do affect CPU temps bit )
I have 3x slipstream 800 on case, two in front @ 9v and Exhaust @ 12v and 140mm YL 1000 RPM @ 7v on top.

How do you find the slipstream fans? I currently have the stock 120mm/140mm tricools running on low, and a pair of AC PWM fans in the front bays - they're quiet but move barely any air. Considering replacing them and the 120mm tricool with either slipstream or s-flex 800rpm fans.thejamppa wrote:I have 3x slipstream 800 on case, two in front @ 9v and Exhaust @ 12v and 140mm YL 1000 RPM @ 7v on top.

Slipstream 800 @ 12v is inaudiable over 1000 RPM 140mm Yateloon in my case. I really can feel each of them pusing a lot air, more than tr-cools considerable quieter. 800 RPM slipstream is very good is you don't want to mess with the fan controllers. Borderline silent out of box with very good ability to push air quietly.
You have a 140mm Y/L in your 300 now? How's the vibration on it? Have you tried it at 7v? How much better is it than the Tricool 140mm? Did you have to do anything different to mount it?thejamppa wrote:Slipstream 800 @ 12v is inaudiable over 1000 RPM 140mm Yateloon in my case. 140 Y/L Doesn't have much vibrations so far: @ 12v, 9v or 7v. The slight vibrations you get in horizontally are compearable the Scytheslipstreams. I'd say you can even hardmount that fan on undampened 300.jhhoffma wrote:You have a 140mm Y/L in your 300 now? How's the vibration on it? Have you tried it at 7v? I have used regular screws. I am waiting 140mm fan guard to arrive, then I post updated pictures. YL can be run even @ 12v without much problems. Sound character is very pleasant and most audiable thing is air woosh. @7v I can hear slight ticking or bearing growl, but only from couple of inch distance.
Too bad my YL's need to be ordered from the states, or else I'd have bundles of them ^^

Rough estimation since I used resistors which were rated 9v and 7v. But I can't be 100% sure what is their correspendencing voltages but they are not far from rated I think. Especially the zalman 7v resistor seems to be pretty close to 7v. Those speed I am not quite sure, since I use molex adapter between fan ad resistor. However it seems to be pretty identical to Nexus 120mm fan and behaves similar way. So i suspect fan speeds should be pretty close to Nexus Real Silent 120mm at correspondencing voltages.jhhoffma wrote:Excellent, do you know what speed it runs at 9v and 7v?
I'll probably be getting one this spring if I can get a deal.
