Scythe Ninja fits on AM2+?

Post by RaptorZX3 » Fri May 29, 2009 3:49 am

i have the old Scythe Ninja without the spaced copper pipes, and on the package it says it's compatible with Socket 754/939/940/AM2 and LGA775. Will it be compatible with AM2+ too? i just want to be sure, because if i upgrade...i'll keep this Scythe Ninja to put on the other CPU and board, along with my ThermalRight HR-05 Chipset cooler.

AM2 and AM2+ are identically in physically. Aslong motherboards layout is compatible with Ninja, you can use it on AM2+ if its compatible with AM2. No difference in attachments... Same goes for AM3 ^^

i think boards manufacturers are more aware of bigger heatsinks now and leave more clearance of capacitors

But is it a Ninja (not supposed to be AM2 compatible) or Ninja RevB (sold as AM2 compatible)?

sorry, it's the Scythe Ninja Plus Revision B.

model number: SCNJ-1100P

on the box it says "AM2 Socket Ready!!"

i think DirectCanada stocked the Japanese version at the time. Do all stock from Scythe come from the Japanese distributor?

Rev. B. Meant "an original Ninja rev. B," not any of the 2 or 3 variants released since 2006.

The AM2 mounting clip is totally unlike socket 939, so there's no way that you can migrate an original Ninja for socket 939 or older to an AM2 'board. But the first Ninjas haven't been available for some time, so if you purchased yours in 2006 or later, it will be AM2-compatible.

You may be able to use a Thermalright Customized AM2 Retention Module (Rev.B or C) to make a s939 Ninja fit an AM* socket.

I haven't personally tried it but it looks like it will work.
