AM2 x3 CPU 8450 Cooler

Post by amjedm » Tue Nov 10, 2009 2:58 pm

I have a x3 8450 CPU and the AMD heatpipe cooler which is currently cooling it is loud IMO :(

I would like to spend under £30 and have a shortlist of coolers. One problem - height of the cooler has to be under 110mm as the case I'm using is the Aerocool M40

Thermalright SI-128 (I already have this but no AM2 mounting hardware, awaiting reply from Thermalright to see if the AM2/AM3 bolt thru kit will work). Should be able to mount the fan underneath as the heatsink has been modded, this will reduce the height of the cooler.

Titan TTC-NK95/HS - only 40mm in height and direct touch heatpipes. I'm afraid you will have to click on products/cooler to see it as I can't link directly to the page :(

Scythe Mini Ninja - not sure if it will fit as the height is around 10mm too much :(

Xigmatek Cobra D984 (H.D.T) 92cm fan - around £30 :(

Not too fond of the Scythe Shurikens, think they're cooling may be inferior to the above.

Advice appreciated - thank you.

43 views and no replies :(, I'll post an update :)

The SI-128 may be a bit long in tooth and not enough to cool an X3 8450 :(

The Titan looks ok but not how well the cooling will be plus a slightly bigger cooler would have been better IMO?

Scythe Minja uses 80/90mm fans, I don't have any quiet 90mm fans and I would prefer to use a 120mm fan anyway.

Xigmatek looks good but I don't really want to shell out £30 on it.

So what do you think peeps :D

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7.

Even better is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 +, just change the noisy stock fan.

Thank you for the reply but I think you overlooked the max height - around 100mm :)
