Some do not list as doing AM 3 though they list fitting AM2...the well known Ninja being one case.

MIGHT work....but I like it when the maker says it works...otherwise...it's on me if it does not.

I wonder if that’s due to some heatsinks being older models that were released before AM3 and they haven’t had their documentation updated.
If AM2 and AM3 really do use the same mounting layout you can disregard what the manufacturers’ quote.

The only difference between AM2 and AM3 is pins, which identify the CPU as AM3. So all heatsinks for AM2 will be good for AM3 too, since there is no physical change except those pins which doesn't matter for heatsinks anyway.

Yes, that's correct, I own both AM2 & AM3, and they both use the same Heatsink mounting.
