New Scythe Mine 2 HSF Has Eight Heatpipes
Uses up to three140 mm Slip Stream PWM & VR fans. It appears they can be set to run as slow as 250 rpm.

In the video he says it's not that quiet but he seems to mainly be talking about full speed and it's completely outclassed by the noctura D14.flemeister wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HugWoN4UuoI

It might be that it's key strength is running with a single PWM fan that kicks in at 250 rpm and perhaps never has to exceed 800 rpm.goatsandmonkeys wrote:In the video he says it's not that quiet but he seems to mainly be talking about full speed and it's completely outclassed by the noctura D14.flemeister wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HugWoN4UuoI
That is a performance profile that is more compelling to SPCR folk.
on the other hand, the performance profile of the Noctua D14 is more compelling to over clockers. The D14, if you look closely at it, doesn't perform all that well at idle. It really comes into its own only at high burn rate temperatures.

Somehow it reminds me of venerable Tuniq Tower
Should've put second row of heatpipes in chess pattern tho. And went for direct touch. That would have put Mine2 over the top.

Re: New Scythe Mine 2 HSF Has Eight Heatpipes
Another look at the mounting system, even with this improved version, makes me think "maybe that Noctua after all"... Now if only Noctua would sell their heatsinks without their fans at a lower price.
Re: New Scythe Mine 2 HSF Has Eight Heatpipes
Yeah, after doing a cooler swap between a mugen 2 and a prolimatech armageddon, I'm a little burnt out on the scythe mounting system. Their coolers can be ok, but the mounting system needs to be easier. As far as the video goes, eh, the "it's loud on full, quiet when slower" is pretty subjective, and without adding extra fans it's hard to really have an objective comparison with other coolers. I'd rather see a full on review from spcr, have to wait and see if one comes up.

There are 8 'U' shaped copper tubes -- they function as 16 heatpipes, though!

What about "For safe and stable attachment to the motherboard, the new F.M.S.B.3 (Super Flip Mount Backplate 3) mounting system is used. Due to the improved design of the backplate, Mine 2 CPU is compatible with all current sockets, including the new LGA1155."cordis wrote:Yeah, after doing a cooler swap between a mugen 2 and a prolimatech armageddon, I'm a little burnt out on the scythe mounting system. The backplate doesn't look so bad, does it?

Do they look like 6mm or 8mm tubes?NeilBlanchard wrote:There are 8 'U' shaped copper tubes -- they function as 16 heatpipes, though!

Heatsinks must be able to adapt to many different CPUs (past, present and future) with the cores in different configurations and positions. When you go direct touch, you end up having to optimize to specific CPUs.alecmg wrote:And went for direct touch. That would have put Mine2 over the top.
Re: New Scythe Mine 2 HSF Has Eight Heatpipes
they look like 6mm pipes. they might have been better off with fewer, larger pipes *cough*thermalright*cough*
chess pattern probably refers to checkerboard... so offset pipes as opposed to inline pipes. think venomous x vs megahalems.
my thoughts lean towards more open fin spacing, at least on one tower to drop fan pressure requirements; including the extra fan clips, dont even need to throw in the fan, just give us the clips; and a better mounting system for easier installation, and bidirectional for amd systems as well.

Re: New Scythe Mine 2 HSF Has Eight Heatpipes
I dunno for sure what size they are, but if they are 8mm then the width across the 4 of them is a touch over 32mm or 1 1/4" which sounds about right to me? If they are 6mm, then that width is about 24mm which is just under 1", so that seems too small. The width across between the screw holes would be standard dimension...

Re: New Scythe Mine 2 HSF Has Eight Heatpipes
no these are definitely 6mm
I don't think Scythe makes anything with 8mm heatpipes.
