Athlon XP owners post your temps?
Was wondering where all the Atlon XP folks are coming in at.
My idle ranges on ambient from 20 to 25 and cpu lowest ever was 33c and 38c idle and load, after playing Q3 for about an hour up to 44c.
Also wondered if I should be doing better with my SLK800A since I run a panaflo 80 L at full 12v right on it. Perhaps some Artic Silver 5 perhaps would help?

First, its rather tough to do a direct comparison of temperatures if its between different motherboards and chipsets. The HSF, fan and fan speed are all variable as well.
I also don't see a problem running CPUs in the low 50s for temps.
That being said, I'm running two XP systems, folding all the time, and would love to jabber on about temperatures.
Abit KT7A, AMD 1600 (Palomino core) at 1.63vcore, SLK800 w/ L1A @ 7v. Case temp 27-30C, CPU 44-52C, depending on ambient.
ECS K7S5A Pro, AMD 1700 (Tbred core) at 1.53vcore, SLK800 w/ L1A @ 6v. Case* temp 28-32C, CPU 40-45C.
Generic thermal paste used on both systems. Sometimes re-used from the excess on the underside of the heatsink
* actually, there is no case. This is motherboard is sitting flat out in the open. However, there is no airflow other than the CPU fan.

I've got an Athlon XP2400+
room temp is 22C
cpu temp at idle 37C
cpu temp at load 41C
Arctic Silver 5 might help some - worth a try. I'm using a SLK900A with a Panaflo 80mm L1A running around 1400rpm. I replaced the stock AMD heatsink/fan with the SLK/Panaflo combo and reduced my cpu temps by 7 degrees.

XP 2400+ with stock HSF on ABIT NF7-S
Case temp is normally about 36
CPU 42 @ idle and 46 under normal load
48-49 playing Call of Duty
It's summer here now with day max temps 28-30 and no aircon. I have an 80mm exhaust fan under the PSU and open a 5.5 inch drive bay to let air in. This last knocks about 2 degrees of the temps. I can knock off a further 2-3 degrees by placing a fan in the drive cage sucking air through the open bay.
Winding the FSB up to 143mhz adds about a degree and a half to CPU temp. I have also had days so hot that the temp would not drop below 50 even with the case open and a houshold fan blowing into it a full tilt!

Crikey, are you running it passive or something?ragear wrote:Athlon XP 2100+
~65c idle
i don't even know what it goes up to at load.. never crashes though
That would certainly help loads, preferably with AS3 too.ragear wrote:i've ordered a thermalright SLK-947U and a panaflo L1A... maybe that will help
My temps:
43-46 idle
low 50s under load
XP2400+ Tbred B not overclocked
SLK800A with L1A
I run the CPU fan between 5-10V depending on load using a Sunbeam Rheobus, in order to keep temps around 50 degrees.
I tried overclocking from stock 2000MHz to 2200MHz, but I had to raise Vcore from 1.65V to 1.825V for stability, which raised temps almost 10 deg (and fan noise!). So I gave up on that pretty quickly, being a PC silencer more than an O/C'er!

Temps measered with MB sensors, 21°C ambient :
Idle :
Case 30°C, CPU 33°C
Full load :
Case 32-33°C, CPU 37°C
Enermax 120mm exhaust @5v, intake@0v, 7000 AlCu@5v.
Case temp seems a little high, and it doesn't lower much with both 120mm's @12v..... Don't know where/how it's measured, maybe the NB, or close to the CPU ?
Btw : First post Been browsing the forums for the last 3 months, computer went from way too loud, and overheating on hot summer days, to quiet and cool. Thank you all !!

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS kris
Im watercooled, basically the radiator fan determines the temperature of my cpu and i have 2 main settings for it although i can vary it to whatever i like, its either mainly full blast for best temps or set to 4-5v for silence.
Fan at Full:
Ambient: 23°C
No Load: 29°C
Full Load: 33°C
Fan at silence setup:
Ambient: 23°C
No Load: 38°C
Full Load: 42°C
I run a heavily overclocked JUHIB 1700+ to equivalent speed of XP2600+. (2.1ghz) too, which is something to bear in mind. (i did have an xp2200 but wasnt good at overclocking so sold it for the juhib 1700+)

My Athlon XP 2400+ on an ECS K7S5A mobo used to die (powerdown pc) because my room is so warm (whatever temp it is outside, same inside... great for winter, horrible for Aussie summer.)
Pre Zalman 7000A-Cu hsf:
- idle 42-ish
- Full load 60 something... crashtastic.
Post Zalman 7000A-Cu hsf:

I love Zalman now.

running a barton 2500+ @ 1.525 V
SLK900 w/ crappy coolermaster fan (3000rpm i think)
ambient 21 I think
case temp 25
CPU-idle 31 (using MBM for tempreading, Vcool to cool )
CPU-load 39-41 (without Vcool playing NFS: nderground, still need to test with vcool)
I like my temps, especially as I bought a new fan that i'll be running at 7v

Well, it does not seem very wise to run without any thermal paste, but considering that you are waiting for AS5 I see nothing wrong as long as your system temps are within safe limits. According to your number you run perfectly fine.
What does strike me is the mention that your system is loud. I guess you have some thermal controlled fan that is working like crazy to cool your CPU because you lack thermal paste.

yeh it's some sort of sunon 80mm that came with the shuttle that has to do both case cooling as well as cpu cooling. it speeds up/slows down based on cpu temp, and i have to say it works really well; it's just not at all quiet.
the shuttle's cooling system is actually capable of keeping my cpu under 60 deg C after about 12 hours of non-stop folding. seems to be ok

My Barton 2500+
29°C - 33°C load (never idle)
10° Ambient
Processor runs at 2250MHz @ 1.66V
HSF is a TT Volcano7 with an Aero7 blower at 3550RPM
------
My Pally 1600+
45°C load
21° Ambient
Processor runs at 1575MHz @ 1.75V (I haven't undervolted it yet)
HSF is an Aero7 Lite with a 12V Panaflo
------
Hsdhman, I once had an xp that would not run faster than 1050MHz at any voltage.
