Swiftech MCX603-Vs and a Tyan Tiger i7505

Post by JV » Wed Jan 14, 2004 7:31 pm

Hello Forum,

I was on here a while back looking for a way to quiet my Dual Xeon system (using a Tyan Tiger i7505 mobo)...

Haven't had too much luck in doing so, but i recently heard about the Swiftech MCX603-V heatsink and was wondering if any of you have installed these on a Tiger i7505 (S2668) mobo?

Hope to hear from someone

FWIW, they fit on an x5dae and x5dal-tg2.

It's close. Some of the pins intermesh, but sub 40C temps seem to indicate the mating is solid. As someone else said, if Tyan followed the Intel specs for motherboard design and socket placement, they should fit.

I have not been able to get the 603V down below 46c idle 55c load. What processors do you have? Are you using the stock Intel attachment mechanism? What thermal compound?

p4-xeon, 2.4B using the retention brackets that came with the Supermicro board. I recently bought Arctic Silver Ceramique. Idle temps are at 35C, load temps climb past 68C before I abort the test. The PSU only has one fan so that may be the reason it handles load poorly.

I have dual 2.8 Xeon, so that is probably a reason why. I have been disappointed by the usability of both Ceramique and AS5, definately not as easy to get a good thermal connection like AS3.
