Software application to control cpu fan speed - HELP!

Post by Lone Ranger » Tue Mar 09, 2004 6:52 am

I want to reduce the speed of my cpu fan and see what effect it has on temperature.

What software utility will do this? I am running a three wire cpu fan (by Evercool).

I am able to run Motherboard Manager but does it control fan speeds? I can't find it if it can. I have also tried these:

FanSpeed (2000 version) http://www.twistedfury.com/fanspeed/
SpeedFan 4.11 http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
MB Probe http://mbprobe.livewiredev.com/

I must be stooopid or missing something in their menus as none of these seems to control the speed of the fans.

Please help!

What motherboard are you using? Is it on the list of compatible boards for SpeedFan and FanSpeed?

As far as I can tell my motherboard seems to be supported by SpeedFan.

However FanSpeed's web site says it is only tested on three mobos so I guess I can't tell in that case.

What are you expecting them to do? They don't slow down the fans, and adjust them automaticaly out of the box. With Speedfan, do you get 2 or 3 boxed with a % value in them?

Yes I get that on the "Readings" tab.

If I adjust them downwards (say to 65%) then nothing happens. The fan rpm values at the top of the same Sppedfan panel remain the same.

I am using 3-wire fans so I guess the extra wire allows for rpm reporting.
