Another question:
Does the Papst 4412FGL @5v (or 6v) vibrates much? I'll put in a 3700AMB case (with grills cut out). Should i buy a Vantec 120mm Vibration Dampener Kit for it?

I've not had any problems with any Papst 4412FGL vibrating noticeably at 5v. It's an excellent 120mm fan, in fact the very best for 5v silence IMO...

Agree w/ al. Unlike the 80mm versions, the 120mm Papst fans don't click at low voltages (at least not the ones I've had).

Save the cash: at 6V you are at 800rpm and any vibrations are imperceptable.

ps (much later): Papst are the only fans I know that are individually balanced. If you look at the rear of the hub (non-label side) you will see several slots (7 on the 3412 I am looking at as I write) with none, 1 or more plugged with little metal pins. These, in theory, should make an undamaged Papst fan the lowest vibration of any fans, all else being equal.

It doesn't matter if they're individually balanced apparently. Some people still complain they're noisier than other brands (in regards to "ticking.")

I have (2) 4412FGL's, currently running @ 5v off of molex (non pwm) neither tick, both are smooth & quiet. Rear Sonata case fan is just audible @5v. Hard drive fan @5v is louder, but I believe this is due to turbulance from the (silly) Sonata front fan mounting design. Previously I ran the 4412's at 7V, this fan @ 7V is quieter to my stock Sonata 120mm fan at 5V. Haven't tried a 120mm Panaflo L1A, but I'd be very surprised if it was as quiet as the Papst at comprable airflow. With both 4412's noise is air/turbulance whoosh, only. No clicking, or mechanical noise whatsoever.

One anecdote isn't enough to conclude from. There are many people who have reported clicking with modern Papst fans. Quiet clicking, but nonetheless.

JohnMK, Have you, by chance personally heard a 4412 tick or click, or is this hersy? The clicking Papst posts I recall all concern smaller fan sizes. BTW, I didn't intend my response to imply that the 4412 is the best 120mm fan, just passing on my 1st hand experience.

John, I'm one of the only people I've seen report a clicking papst 120mm fan in this thread -- but the fan also wobbled when running (unmounted) and was obviously out of balance (shipping?). The replacement fan is mechanically silent.

I've seen a bunch of reports on the 80mm papst's clicking (I've got one of them too), but haven't really seen any reports on problems with the 120's.

Agreed: my Papst personal experience includes 612NGM, 8412NGL, 8412NGLE, 8412NG, 3412NGL & 4412FGL. I know that at lower voltages and certainly under PWM all the 92mm and smaller fans have times when the motor noise exceeds the air noise, at least in irritation factor if not real dB. This is not true of my 4412FGL: indeed at 5V it is quieter to my ears than an 80mm 'flo L1A I compared it toand reported here.

While we are debating the famous Papst click, can I point out the question was about the Vantec 120mm Vibration Dampener Kit, and my original point was about the balance of Papst fans.
