Nexus 92mm vs Panaflo 00mm

Post by mindwalker » Wed Dec 01, 2004 4:47 pm

I'm considering buying a HTPC (Home Theater PC) case that can take either
a 80mm or a 92mm intake fan. As this case is going to be fairly packed
with hardware I want good airflow but I also a quiet fan as well. So
which is better in regards to silence and airflow: a Panaflo 80mm or
a Nexus Real Silent 92mm fan. Both will be undervolted to 5 or 7 volts
of course.

Nexus 92. I'm using one right now to replace the ThermalTake Smart Fan II I had on my XP90, and it's working marvelously.

Actually, based on my testing and MikeC's dBA figures, they're real close to each other in noise and airflow. I'd have a difficult time choosing between them, although the Panaflo might get the nod because it's cheaper. On the other hand, you might have a slightly better chance of always getting a quiet Nexus. With the Panaflos, it's seems like their QC isn't as good.

It really is a "flip a coin" type of situation.

You might also get away with stock voltages on the Nexus 92. It's pretty quiet. L1A @ 12V is definitely audiable.

Yeah, I just recently had a Nexus92 running at 12v. Significantly quiter than my Japanaflos at 12v.

Personally I would go for the Nexus92 and undervolt as desired.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Looks like I'll be going with the
Nexus fan.

Nexus 92mm because the Panaflo is about three times as noisy as the Nexus92mm.

Nexus 92mm...

I ordered a Thermaltake SilentTower for one of my friends and a Nexus 92mm to replace their *noisy* 92mm fan (no way it's only 22dbA!). I usually don't like Thermaltake but since he have a Socket A motherboard, I was unable to find a fanless solution. Anyways, with the Nexus, there's no need to undervolt it, at 12V you have a good airflow and it's very quiet. Now he's asking me how to silence his HDD! :)

I bought a Nexus 92mm couple of days ago, and like Slaugh said at 12v it's extremly quiet no need to undervolt it.
But if you are looking for airflow a Silenx 92mm might be a better option.

I compared both fan and the Silenx push a little more air and is nearly as quiet.

I don't think SilenX is a good idea!... Just make a quick search for SilenX on SPCR forums and you'll find out why... If you need more airflow, I guess Panaflo would be a better choice! When I was looking for a quiet 120mm fan, the SilenX was on my list but I quickly changed my mind and bought a Nexus instead! I'm pretty happy with that decision! SPCR was right! :)
