Damn
I just collected the money of people from our german forum for 30 Yate Loon D12SL-12 and 46 D12SM-12. All the effort for nothing...
Well that's life...
Perhaps we will order the SM ones but I don't know it yet. I don't even want one of these but I said I will order them along with the other ones.

shipment arrived
I just received 10 of the d12sm-12 yate loons from tekgems. I'm not sure what their current inventory is however. - FG
I don't know why freshjuice wasn't happy with his D12SM-12 fans. Mine are almost identical in noise to the SL-12's. My 2 Nexus 120's are just a tad quieter throughout the voltage range than the SL-12's but they definitely don't spin at the same RPM's. I'm very happy with my SM-12's and will be using these over the SL-12's or Nexus fans in my upcoming build. If the SM-12's are louder than the SL-12's at 5v then my hearing just isn't what it used to be. (I'm only 25.) Maybe freshjuice just got some bad samples.
And for those of you that don't know.... Fatwallet is a deal-hunting site. (www.fatwallet.com) So it is highly unlikely that the code will quit working anytime soon unless Compgeeks decides to get rid of their fatwallet affiliation or whatever it is they have going.

12sm-12
The 12sm-12 is the same fan in the 430W seasonic s12 so it can't be that bad.
The seasonic has a black version. I have a yate loon 12sm-12 so I will compare them. - FG
According to a s12 review on the web.

Just an update on my batch of ten from Tekgems. I broke them all in at 12V for about 10 hours. In case some of you didn't know, fans (sleeve bearing especially) will speed up after break-in and you get a better feel of their noise profile than when brand new.
Two of them had moderate vibrations and mild clicking hub noises (hub labels were off-center by quite a bit). Two others had very mild vibrations and the rest were just beautiful. I split the order with a buddy and kept the best for myself
Sun Kim went out of his way to get me my order since APO addresses require special customs labeling. I think on my whole order he maybe made $1 profit. Thanks Tekgems!

these fans are tricky to get a hold of, i can understand why they decided against importing them.
i've had no luck at all trying to contact yate loon about minimum order quantities, fob pricing, etc., but i assume they're pricing them around $2.50 per 120mm fan, minimum order of $6000 or so. then you have shipping to worry about - ups from hong kong adds about 75% to the fan price, so you really have to go by sea. that leaves you $7000-$8000 out of pocket while you wait 3-4 months for the fans to arrive, hoping they're in working condition when they show up.
i would love to be a bulk importer of the quiet fans everyone's looking for, but hk companies are less than helpful when it comes to a) communication and b) shipping advice. i would gladly pay a 10% premium over goods+shipping cost if they would handle shipping themselves instead of leaving crates at the dock.

Lovely! I got my package from TekGems yesterday. A cardboard box with 10 orange fans in it really reminded me of how much of a nerd I am :p
btw, I got them at the original 3.9 price, even after he raised the price - all because I had left the page for the fan open in Firefox over night. Must be a rather simple shop system.

Ah, yes, I got my batch of 10 from tekgems a few days back (sorry about the late report, I've been excessively busy). They seem to all be in working order. I've earmarked 4 of them as being "excellent" (with 2 standouts) and only 1 as having noise that makes it unusable in a silent machine. All in all a good batch. Now does anyone know a trick to mount one on the side of a zalman zm-80C to replace my dying 80mm clicking son of a gun?
btw. Excellent customer support at tekgems. Mr. Kim went out of his way on this one.

I ordered another 2 orange fans from Isellsurplus last friday and recived them yesterday. Sadly this time around they sent the wrong fans, a pair of the clear blue led ones showed up. I ran them for about 8 hours on full speed and then compared them to an orange one all outside the case standing on my desk, to my ear they sound about the same. The blue led color is nice and bright I enjoyed looking at it for a couple minutes at the end of that 8 hour run then I clipped the leads since I hate glowing objects on computers

orange loons
Y,
I just did a check of geeks, isellsurplus, and gemteks and they all indicate they are sold out of orange loons. Did you order thinking they might be able to find a couple, or were they still available when you ordered. They still have the clear ones and I'm glad to here they seem as quiet to you. I have both, but just haven't gotten around to testing them. I have a feeling that the days of 10 for $40 is over. TIA - FG
A smart person might open and order of a box or two from evertek at 90 fans/box and then pay for them as soon as the new fan reviews come out declaring the D12SM-12 as quiet as the nexus but with more top end. I doubt that you could make enough money to make it worthwhile.

Like jmatucd, I have been so busy that I neglected to report on the success of my TekGems order. I still haven't even unpacked all the fans! However, I can say that the service was quite good. I was surprised to see that Mr. Sun Kim registered here — any chance you'll be carrying other components for quiet computing, sir?

Any luck finding some more? I unfortunately just came into the "lack of computer" state yesterday, and started doing research. Of course, this was my first stop for fans, but all the previous links are dead or only have the LED versions. I can find the smaller 80mm version easily enough, but the 120mm version I need is hard to find. Reading all these post is just making me very envious.

Maybe I just got a bad one (the blue LED 120mm fan), but maybe it's where it's placed. I'm using that one as a front intake on my Antec 3000B case (which I know is not necessary). But it is defenitely the biggest culprit for noise on my PC...even worse that the stock 120 outtake fan that came with the case when switched to 12v. I have the D12SM-12 cranked to zero and it gives a slight hum. If I turn the speed up, it hums and rattles (no U@ reference intended!) quite a bit.
I want to replace it now , as well as the back outtake fan. ALL THE ORANGE & BLACK ONES ARE GONE! I just spend 30 minutes looking and I can't find them anywhere. I'm now such a cheapskate that I won't
It is possible I just has sensitive ears... spending a lot of time in the recording studio will do that to you. You start hearing mouse farts.
If anyone has a lead on the orange or black Yate Loons, let me know

FJ,
There is another lead on yate loons but I think they're D12SM-12. The lead is under a different thread - maybe you've already found it: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=19709

Hey I recently bought one of the blue led fans for an Antec SLK3000b case. I also purchased a zalman fan mate 2 but for some reason I can't control the fan! I hooked everything up properly but it still runs at 12v despite turning the knob on the zalman fan mate. I'm running a DFI Ultra infinity board and my PSU is a Seasonic Super Tornado 350W. Is there some step I'm missing or did I just get a bad fan controller?
