Grrr, just found out I'm going to need a 120mm fan for my sister's computer I'm (naturally, as a good tech-minded brother) providing support for. I'm really kicking myself since I noticed this thread when it started, January 18th to be exact (or at least that's when I added it to the 120mm fans sticky thread), but decided to pass since I wouldn't need a 120mm fan in the near future...or so I thought.

Anyhow, I would be interested in purchasing a good Yate Loon sample from one of you guys who wisely bought in bulk. Please send a PM my way! FYI I'm in south-east USA.

I don't have any genuine Yate Loon's to compare it to, but I am VERY pleased with it. I bought 2 at CompUSA, and might buy a 3rd.

I previously had a Vantec Stealth Fan, which I never used because it was such a piece of trash (lots of motor/bearing noise at low RPM). The Mad Dog Tech Toys fan is the absolute opposite end of the spectrum, is very quiet at max RPM (1800), and at the low speed on a Zalman fanmate it's only audible if I put my ear right up next to it. It should scale VERY well from a noise/performance perspective when throttled using a program like speedfan.

Yeah, I am already familiar with the CompUSA/MadDog thread. That might be what I end up with since I don't won't to make my sister pay for a pricy Nexus.

i still want the 4 dollar yaleloon haha. I can't afford a 12 bucks fan. that's a little out of my leage, if it comes to worst, i'm replacing them with alot of 80mm at very low votage.

Well I got my 55 Yate Loon D12SM-12 Crystal Clear fans two weeks ago. I thought I share a nice picture with you:



They are nice fans too, my two SLs might be a little bit more quiet but not very much.

Try breaking them in all together daisy-chained and let us know what they sound like then!

I bought a few D12SM-12s (black) from PCTek. I'm finding them louder than the Tri-Cool in my SLK3000B. Is that to be expected?

I am interested in your findings, but w/o any more info your post doesn't really help very much. The tri cool has a much greater top spd than the D12SM-12, and if you use the speed switch on the tri cool at the lowest setting its at 1200 rpm. There's no point in posting unless you atleast give the min/max spd. of your test. - FG

for $3.60 w/purchase of 10. I don't have any specs. and neither does Mr. Kim - I'm sure you could get them from logisys. - FG

I just got an email from geeks.com that their orange Yate Loon fans are back in stock. I had this item on my wish list for what seems to be a few months. Also looks like its in stock at iSellSurplus. This was the company that I ordered from and was very good. The blue LED medium speed is also available at both places.

Am I missing something, because I don't see the low-speeds in stock at either place?...

Umm... OK I skimmed through this entire thread. I decided I wanted to buy 10 of the tekgems yate loons, but I see no way to get the bulk price... is that gone now? That's too bad... so we're basically saying that it's either:

And from the posts I've read, I understand that they can both achieve similar low-rpm's (with similar sound levels), with the main differences being that the medium speed version can achieve higher rpm's, and the medium speed version has no rpm sensing.

Does this all sound about right? Cuz I'm about to buy the medium speed version, because I don't care about rpm sensing, and they should (theoretically) be just as quiet as the tekgems low-speed version. as long as I undervolt. Someone please correct me if I got this wrong...

PS, that sounds about right. If you go in for it, check out this fan controller, it comes with four 3-pin to 4-pin adapters so that you can dynamically undervolt any fan.

I personally would go for the pctek SMs, but that's just me.

The difference between low and medium speed isn't much, only a couple of hundred RPMs. TBH I wouldn't worry about which one you get unless you absolutely have to run it at 12V - if you're cutting it that fine choose another fan.

Just as a reminder last I heard the pctekonline guy was substituting young lin fans in place of the D12SM-12's. There's a parallel thread about this. Be careful. - FG

Yeah the tekgems dealer pm'd me that he'd put the quantity discount back up there when the next shop update occurred. I guess that has already happened. So I think I'm gonna buy me 10 of the orange yate loons from tekgems. I should come out with at LEAST 3 or 4 excellent fans, right? And I'll be saving money compared to buying 4 Nexus's, so... I guess it's a decent way to go.

Where I'll put all my extra fans in my little ass apartment is another question altogether....

D12SL-12 is the right model number, but the picture is black instead of the orange fans I got awhile back.

Regular price $8, now $3.99
