Problems with mobo reading Nexus fan speeds

Post by ONEshot » Wed Feb 02, 2005 4:30 pm

It doesn't even register with the motherboard's builtin monitor "CoreCenter" from MSI.

Tried SpeedFan as well, not registering anything.

Is there something up with RPM monitoring with Nexus 120mm? The orange version...

Mobo's have a minimum RPM. They can't read anything below that. This minimum is usually somewhere in the 600 till 1000 RPM range. The Nexus 120mm should spin about 1000 RPM. Doesn't matter which software you try for it, as it is the monitoring chip on the mobo that is the limiting factor.

Hi,

have a read of this thread i started , there appear to be some "issues" with the fan wiring that may cause issues with rpm monitoring, hope it makes more sense to you than me tho ;)

What pitch is referring to is that some Nexus seem to have the +12V line connected at the 3-pin M/B fan connector, and some have only Gnd and RPM monitoring connected. So you might be able to power your fan off the M/B or not, depending on the version of Nexus you have. The RPM signal does get passed to the M/B in both cases. But as Tibors said, it will then depend on your M/B's minimum RPM it can detect, as the Nexus turns very slowly. My Asus M/B doesn't register any of my Nexus 120mm on any of its fan headers.

I suspect it might be. But these fans are very reliable, so it doesn't bother me much not to be able to constantly monitor their RPM in software.

It's gotta be spinning too slow, then. I can run it solely off the mobo connector and solely off the 12V connector.

So... how do y'all control your Nexus's?

Hi,

Main problem is the fan doesn't seem controllable from my fan controller either :(
