fans quieter than lanboy 120mm

Post by hobochunk » Mon Feb 14, 2005 12:29 pm

Hi, looking for fans that have about the same airflow but lower noise than the stock fans from a super lanboy. Curious about the yate loon low speed ones, anyone heard both of these? I assume these are readily available in taiwan?

Thanks

I have a few of the medium speed Yate Loons on the way but still waiting. If you haven't already, I'd suggest you remove the intake cover and cut out the grille behind the front fan. They both contribute to a fair amount of noise from air turbulence.

Are Fortron PSU's widely available in taiwan? Or most other products made there?

tell us what CFM the lanboy fans produce and it will make things easier for us!

panaflow or papst fans are prob best, nexus are very quiet but have low CFM.

Their specs are

1200 rpm
39 cfm
25 db

How hard was the grill to remove?

Reason I asked if they were in Taiwan was because Yate Loons hq is in Taiwan.

Thanks

WELCOME TO SPCR !!!

From what my friends tell my, in Taiwan you can get whatever you want by the cartload :)

As for your question, I think a slow Yate Loon / Nexus will do nicely. The YL might require a slight undervolt though.

It was fairly simple to do. I took a dremel with a cutting wheel and traced the outline of the fan opening on the grille. If you remove the fan, you'll see what I'm talking about. The aluminum is fairly thin and I basically made cuts to connect the holes all the way around. Took about 15 minutes to do.

buy a nexus 120mm fan then, 37 CFM at 22.8db, and they undervolt very nicely!!! they are expensive though, but definatly the best.

Chunk,

You can also buy 120mm globes from www.coolcases.com at $8 each. - FG

67cfm at 2000 rpm - an excellent deal.

If I went for one of the Yate Loons, should I get the sleeve or ball bearing ones?

Based on the specs on their website, I figure it would be quieter if undervolted to have the same airflow right? I guess it would be similar to the nexus.

Hobo,

Oh I see you're in taiwan. Go for a sleeve bearing one. They're supposed to be quieter. - FG
