140mm - 14cm fans....any out there ?

Post by c00z » Wed Mar 09, 2005 6:30 pm

Are their any 140mm fans out there, since I think I could mod my 120mm -->140mm pretty easily. Also, how would one go about getting some yate loon 140mm fans since I am impressed by their 120mm i am assuming that 140mm could only be that much better

If only we could get whatever fans we wanted, I'm sure lots of people would like to try the 120x38mm yate loons, or some of the other sizes, but availability of them is rather lacking.

There are two topics on this on the second page of this forum.

These stores have some fans in their surplus section, but it doesn't show up on their web page; you will probably have to call them.
So far I've purchased:
1. a 120mmx38mm 120vac Accuflow sleevebearing fan, which I ran at half speed using an AC fan controller (Home Depot)- very quiet
2. an ADDA 140mmx50mm 120vac, which buzzed and clicked at half speed thus returned
3. a Papst 140mmx50mm 24vdc 1.1a fan which I now run at 7 volts, and I like its lack of noise, but this on I had to hang on the outside of my case - it wouldn't fit inside. I managed to find a grilled knick-knack box which I could use for a finger guard.

"No sale is final until you're satisfied" - from their web page, and I've never had any problems returning anything.

c00z, would you mind saying what fan are you using on the NB-1? I am using it too on my nForce4-SLI, and the 45x10 mm Delta at full 7,000 rpm is very loud. I'm running it at ~4,500 rpm and it's still too loud for SPCR standards. Are there any 45x20 mm fans out there? Or a 45 -> 60 mm adapter?
About 140 mm fans, the PSUs that came with such fans are not so quiet. There has been more interest in the quieting of standard 120 mm fans. There is however a 172 mm (24V) fan - I don't remember the make - that may be quiet and moving a lot of air at 12V or less...

I am running the NB-1 passively cooled. Actually it gets a fair bit of air from the 120mm that is overhanging on the si-97, the max volts i run though it are 1.7V and it runs cool to the touch
